Facing the big green monster

You may have noticed something rather unusual going on in Tuesday's lunch. What was that creamy green stuff spreading it's yumminess on my pitas? Only one of my deepest, darkest fears-avacado. (Hey, some people are afraid of snakes and spiders I'm afraid of a scaly-skinned, fat laden fruit and pasta-no judgement!)

Well, in talking to my darling friend Meg I decided it was time to face this ridiculous phobia head on and chow down on some healthy green fats.

Please excuse the wet hear, no make-up, ugly outfit look I'm touting here. I had just hopped out of the shower and was about to start painting! ;P

So I spread 1/8 of this terrifying beast on 2 (split open) TJ's wheat pitas, topped it with a little onion and s&p. It's my party and gonna eat green fat if I want to!

I'm proud to say I've enjoyed this delicacy 3 times since and lived to tell the tale. Someone find me a green badge of courage because I'm busting at the seams with pride over this one.

Can I get an amen to facing food fears?

Oh man.

Avocado.

Totally freaks me out, too. But for different reasons.

I think it's texture is just nast-ayyy.

BUT AMEN TO FACING FOOD FEARS! You rock, chica!

good job! I am sure your body is apprecciative! I LOVE the taste of avocado but not the texture...mashing it up is a great idea. Just to face the fear first! *starts adding to grocery list*

I love your kitchen by the way :)

Hey Girl! I have a very similar post on my blog about getting over fear foods...specifically avocados and granola. Well, since then, I've been chowin down on WHOLE avocados (YES!!) and lots of granola..and I'm exactly the same (no 5000 lb weight gains, LOL!! silly ED!)

Proud of you girl! I know how hard it can be! try adding a little more each time..you deserve lots of this yummy and SUPER SUPER HEALTHY Treat!

WOOOHOOO! That is so great Emily! I was so scared of avocado for a long time too, but recently we've rekindled our love affair! That green fat-laden beast is SO TASTY! Next time go for even more than 1/8 so you can REALLY taste it ;)

Your kitchen is so nice! Very spacious and beautiful!

Hey, good for you trying new foods! I'm afraid of avocados, too. My dad makes avocado sandwiches ALL the time. Maybe it's that they're...big? And green?

I like your preparing-to-paint outfit. I hope you post some more of what you are painting!

EMILY!!! Alright, I don't know what is wrong with me, but I finally clicked over to your BEAUTIFUL blog today. If the all caps tell you anything, I am so freakin' excited. I'm, like, in love with you already!

I love the videos--you're so damn cute. And arty, which I love.

Uhh, could you help me design a header half as amazing as yours? That'd be great.

HOLLAAA to the avocados and facing fear foods! Personally, I can't get over the texture of avocados alone, but I do love guacamole. You're a stunna for trying them! Believe it or not, there was a time in my life I was afraid of more than half the things I eat now. You're well on your way, beaty!

Thanks for leaving the sweetest comments all the time. I'm so glad I've found you now :)

way to go emily!!! im extremely proud of you for overcoming this challenge - i knew you could do it.

avocados used to be a major fear food of mine. until i realized how delicious they are. and also? avocados are a fruit silly girl :) they wont put weight on us because they are healthy fats and full of nutrients. now i eat the green monster almost every day - my personal favorite is guacamole. mashed with a bit of sea salt, cracked pepper and lime juice. yum on anything!

love you,
brooke

p.s your picture is priceless! i love it :)
