Pbu: My Contribution to the Society of the World

As a little girl I always worried that I wouldn't make enough of a mark on the world. That I would live my life and pass away without leaving a legacy. No more! Behold my contribution to the great society of the world.

I'm a big time fan of nut butters. There was a time that I believed earth revolved around a jar of TJ's pb and the secret of the Mona Lisa's smile was a mouthful of White Chocolate Wonderful. I love my nutty friends so much I like to dress them up in fancy clothing.

What I don't love so very much is the horrific stomach-ache they create in this curly personage's abdominal region when consumed immediately before exercise per diem. The higher fat content just did not sit well when these legs started running. I've tried Better N' Peanut Butter, but gave it up for the gross taste and even grosser ingredients. I've lusted after PB2, and begged my ever-obstinately lovable parents to re-consider their ban on any and all online food purchases. I even gave up my raison d'etre for a whole day and spent the night consoling my wounded taste buds with a jar and a spoon to make up for the emotional damage the traumatic experience inflicted.

I was ready to give up. I truly thought all hope was lost.

And then, one day, in a moment of true brilliance (which only really happen when one happens to turn the shower water to freezing cold on particularly rushed mornings when strawberry-scented shampoo decides to attack your drooping eyeballs), the solution to my dilemma blessed me with its presence.

Ladies and girls-allow me to introduce you to Pbu...

Pbu

1 cup peanut butter
2 cups almond milk (or any non-dairy milk)
Sweetener to taste

*Optional*

Cinnamon to taste
Salt to taste

Mix the holy trinity together and add you chosen amounts of the optional ingredients. Stir. Stir some more. Stir until your arm hurts. Stir until Jillian Michaels would be proud to have your right forearm. Continue to stir until peanut butter and almond milk surrender their separate identities and form the most amazing substance ever to be eaten off of a spoon.

Eat in on toast.

Eat it in Fage.

Eat it in oatmeal or oatbran or muesli.

Dip carrots or apple slices or strawberries or blueberries.

Make ants on a log.

Dig out the grahm crackers and make Pbu s'mores.

Spread it on a larabar.

Spoon it on ice cream.

Dribble it on a sweet potato.

Lick it off the spoon...

I see you put the serving size in grams, but I'm not sure what that is.. like 2 tablespoons?

Not gonna lie, this concoction makes you sound like a goddess. Hail to the Pbu!

Cacti Don't Cry said...

Ha do you HAVE to stir it by hand?! ;)

<3 <3

Emma said...

I've totally done this before! Although, I'm not sure I stirred it enough - Jillian Michaels may or may not have been proud. I may have to do it again, just to see. :)

Love you,
Emma

Sounds interesting! I've never tried adding almond milk to PB. Is it cheating if I use a hand mixer? :-)

Thanks for posting this! I whipped some up right away and tried it...good!

Also...31 grams is about 2 TBS. (Does that mean I can eat it ALL DAY and not get fat like I would with regular pb?)

Thank you!

Sounds like a great solution! Fat is often a difficult pre-workout snack component, as it stays in the stomach for quite a while before being digested.

Hello there my fellow curly haired blogger. Your concoction sounds yummy! How did you figure the nutrition?

moretolifethanlettuce said...

I just read your latest post and was a wee bit confused about when this Pbu business came about, so of course I had to scroll down to read more! Um, brilliant! I will most DEFINITELY be whipping up a batch of this to keep in the fridge and slather on everything, it sounds wonderful! Question: which brand and variety of almond milk did you use? Yes, I'm being all anal about the nutritional deets but I also want my Pbu to turn out as delicious as yours, so I've gotta replicate it exactly!

how clever!!!!!!

girl you are SUCH a great writer by the way :) love your blog and your fabulous attitude :)

I JUST MADE THIS!!!! And I totally share your pain, my parents think it's absolutely sketchy to be ordering FOOD of all things off the world wide web. But back to your genius, this was so smooth and light and almost refreshing! It was bordering smoothie status, balls, it was DAMN GREAT. I will never and I mean never, go back to regular thick, dense, gets-stuck-to-your-palate, peanut butter evah again!*

Nice to meet ya!
I'm Natalie :)

*eternally binding agreements shouldn't be taken seriously, but my passion for your simple recipe is tremendous!

Yum Emily, That sounds good. Whats the consistency like? Is it runny? This is definitely a good way to make my peanut butter last longer!

OMG I just made this now, and it's AMAZING!!!!! Girl you are a genius!! I can't wait to post about it :D

How long do you think it would keep? I can't wait to make this.

Mountain Mama said...

Shh, Don't tell. I took the remainder of my white chocolate PB--which I was finding a little too sweet anyway--dumped almond milk right into the jar and stirred stirred stirred away.

Kids and I have had it on crackers, cookies, and oatmeal. The milk cut the sweetness and once it's refrigerated, it's easier for the kiddos to spread.

Great idea!

ChezChani said...

I might have to try this but I don't know. I don't like to mess with perfection.

hopeinpeanutbutterandoats said...

can i just tell you...i made some of this pbu..and holy shit...IM BLOWN AWAY! SOOOO good. def a new staple. i used crunchy PB instead and it was divine!
thank you for your contribution..i will forever remember you now :)

Eric said...

this is brilliant!

however, a 2-1 liquid to peanut butter ratio did not work for me at ALL. but once I switched to a 1-1 ratio, it was delicious, the proper consistency, and half the fat and calories of regular peanut butter!!

I made it with vanilla hemp milk, and it was so yummy! I'll be using this not just as a snack, but as a dessert topping and a chocolate cake frosting, too. well, so much for the savings in calories...

Stacie said...

I made this too and the 2-1 got way to soupy, even after whipping it with the electric mixer for over 5 minutes. So, I ended with a 1.5:1 ratio of almond butter to almond milk. It's delish. Thanks!

Gasp: I've never tried PBU!!! :-(

I'm juice fasting for 30 days right now (I'm on day 10) but when I introduce solid foods again, I'll have to try this!!!

I'm also curious how you came up with the name? ;-)

Maggie said...

just posted about it... i made mine with almond butter and chocolate milk. like heaven!

Donna said...

How do you think this would be with Almond Butter? Too much almond? I bought some and (forgive me) it's a little rich for me.

Anonymous said...

no offence but this sounds like peanut butter for people who are watching their weight AKA diet peanut butter, thin with milk to reduce energy density...
hang in there

plentifulplants said...

I just made CHU. Homemade chocoalte hazelnut butter and homemade brazil nut milk. And it's FABULOUS! Thanks for the idea :)

Sal said...

I made this on saturday and oh my god it's awesome!! thank you for sharing!!

dorothy said...

i LOVE this idea! revolutionary hah :)

but do you think i can use dairy milk or will it spoil?

teehee... I'm sold.

lilearthmuffin said...

This looks delish! I really want to make this soon since I tried to make some of my own AB in my food processor but it ended up not giving me enough. Do you think I could use soy milk instead of almond milk?

Michal :)

Jen @ Kiss the Hem of Her Apron said...

I've stopped buying nut butters because they're just too addictive for me...

But...

Maybe if I made a batch of PBu, I could indulge guilt-free?

I'll try it and report back! THANK YOU for this!

Katrina said...

Can I just put it all in a blender?

this is seriously one of the best things I've ever eaten. It's good on everything. cereal. vegetables. everything. thank you. :)

Love this idea and just tried it. However I must have used the wrong PB. I used a natural PB with no exra ingredients but peanuts. Mine is soupy, so I'm going to keep adding PB! What type PB is best to use to prevent peanut butter milk? This is absolutely a wonderful idea and I want to succeed with mine turning out like yours.

Jac said...

can soy milk be used? why can't regular milk be used?
